FFRC Blog Week Ending October 24, 2026
National Veterinary Technician Week honors the professionals across the US who provide outstanding services. The observance takes place the third week in October each year. It also aims to educate and raise awareness about what vet techs do. Please help us observe and honor all of the vet techs and future vet techs (Megan)!!!

We had a couple of adoptions this week.
On 10/19, the first was the off camera, but not surprising, adoption of TIMBIT and FIESTY. Feisty has a new name, she is now ELSA, was named after Elsa Lancaster, The Bride of Frankenstein. Megan and Eric are now officially Momma and Daddy to these two special kitties. Timbit arrived on August 9th at only about a day old. He was brought to FFRC in a bucket with his four siblings. The four were wrapped very tightly in long grass. Timbit was the only one that was not bound. All of the other four had either passed or were actively passing. The next day, a ten-day old Feisty/Elsa was brought to FFRC, although we were full, we thought that this kitty would be a great buddy for Timbit--we were right. Congrats to all!

Getting adopted is very serious business.
On October 20th, it was GUTHRIE's turn to go to her furever home. Megan had told us that there was a pre-approved adopter looking for an adult or an older kitty. Well, when Dee arrived and met Guthrie, it was love at first sight. Guthrie had been in Back Thumper's Room because she is a bit shy. She quickly became a drool monster when she started getting lovin' from Dee. Guthrie just turned nine and needed a quiet, one kitty home. She had been with her previous owner for a long time, but homelife changes forced Guthrie to come back to FFRC. Our Back Thumper's Room Goddess now lives a short 15-minute drive from FFRC with a Momma that works from home.
This week, we did not take in any new kitties. Phew, we took in enough last week to last the entire month (or more).
But last week, I did not have pictures of some of the kitties that came in . Here they are.
This girl was named VALERIE. She was the one found at an Airbnb and has a golden crown.
The little girl that came from Dr. Darcy's office (had been thrown from a car) was VAMPY. She has the biggest eyes and is guarding her kitten food.
This new little kitty, BABY WHISKERSON, is at Megan's house.
Now for all of the "Meezers". The Siamese looking kitties are eating on their own--but they also face-plant themselves right into their food.
Here's BENTON getting his bath to wash away his "extra" food.
The first is a male now with an orange collar. This boy was named ARULEN.
The second one is a male now with a red collar. This boy was named BENTON. Bonus picture of Benton after his bath.
The third one is a male now with a gray collar. This boy was named CLEVELAND.
Now for the girls. The first now has a pink collar. This girl was named FELORAH.
The last girl now has a purple collar. This girl was named SADIE. She is the runt of the litter.
Here's a picture of all five when they were very young.
Health Updates:
All new babies have tested fine.
The FIP kitties are all responding well to their treatment.
Holds:
SMUDGES will be going home as soon as FIP treatment is complete. A reunion with DOLLY, formerly SHINE, will be a happy one.
BEAZLEE and WYNN are both on hold and will be going to the same household. The adoption was currently planned for 10/24 at 1:30 but has been rescheduled for 10/31 at 1:30. This change was to accommodate schedules better. There are no issues.
BEAZLEE
WYNN
We have a lot of applications that we are reviewing, so look for more holds and adoptions soon!
Center Kitties:
GORDIE and CHOWDER, two of our "hoard" brothers have settled in The Cove.
How about a past and present photo of our OTTER (Bo-Botter)?
ERIC is taking a break from his meeting to see where Cindy is hiding.
FINNEY is taste-testing the food to make sure it's OK for his friends.
Updates on Adopted Kitties:
THOR, MALADE and ZEKE are doing fantastic. Here is an update from their family.
Hi FFRC nation. I haven’t posted an update since we got home with Thor & Malade (so sorry!). Everyone is doing fantastic. All kitties have settled in & are getting along just fine. Zeke was the only one that was hissy when we first brought Thor & Malade home but it didn’t take him too long to adjust, maybe a week or two. Now there are early morning zoomies & tough wrestling matches. I must say that Malade is the toughest. She whoops their tails daily. Sometimes I have to break them up
They adjusted well to our doggie Rosie but when Rosie gets overly excited, they are a little leery & will run away from her. They sleep a lot during the day & are pretty active at night when all is quiet. Malade loves the sun porch & waits patiently in the morning for us to open the door. Thor is a lap cat & it doesn’t matter whose laptop he sits in, mine, Sean’s or my mom’s. All 3 siblings have BIG purrs & love attention.
ZOOKY is doing great, as well. Here is a note that was sent to Megan:
"Hi Megan.
I hope you're doing well. Just wanted to give a Zooky update. She is such a good girl! I can't believe how she got here and instantly settled in.
It's been so much fun watching her personality come out. Things we hadn't seen on the cam. Like her relaxing (see the pic lol) and her post-poop zoomies.
She's also a bit of a bossy girl! She apparently has a strict 10pm bedtime and starts grumbling and yelling at me if we are not all cleaned up and ready for bed, lol. I am going to send some pics in the next message...of all the beds I got her, she chooses the headboard on my mom's bed as her spot. She's really a character and we love her so much. "
The family of ROBERT and THEON also provided an update to Megan:
It's been over a year and a half since picked up the boys from FOF and they have adjusted well to their new home. It took Robert a few months longer but they both now own the house, I only live here with them.
They were the perfect cats for me. They are loveable when they want to have attention but not over bearing with needing attention. They have helped me learn to slow down and enjoy life with their casual attitude of just taking life as it comes.
They obviously sleep a lot and play with each other several times a day. Their curiosity about anything is a blast to watch. There isn't any place in the house that they haven't checked out and even places I never thought they could get too. One of the best things is to watch is when they find a fly or insect (they don't stand a chance with the boys around) and they play with it for some time and then one of them just eats it as a snack.
They have dry food all the time but get a ½ of can of wet food in the mornings.
They are worse than giving a toddler an ice cream bar with their excitement about their wet food.
They have been a blessing for me, thank you"

Chewy Wish List
The Flash Sale that was held on Wednesday, 10/21 raised almost $1.300!!!! We had towel sets, drying mats, table runners, table clothes, place mats, oven mitts, blankets, t-shirts, wallet sets, bags and backpacks, scarves, figurines, wall hangings, garland, coffee/soup mugs and other Halloween decor. Thank you to all that participated.
Our next Humane Ohio Day is Tuesday, October 27th. RICH and CLARICE will be heading up for a "snip-snip".
Dr. Darcy will be at FFRC for her annual review of the Center and all of our beloved kitties. The sound will be turned off and the camera lowered while she is here. This allows Megan the opportunity to ask questions without alarming all of us and also to respect our kitty's privacy while they are being poked and prodded.
Volunteer and Staff party will be on 11/14. If you would like to contribute to our celebration, here is info on our numbers: FFRC has 26-28 volunteers and staff that keep the Center running smoothly. The camera will be lowered and sound turned off during this time, as well.
Kitty Christmas will be 12/5. We have started taking Kitty Christmas donations. Our Mod, Gem, has posted this information regarding the event:
It’s that time of year again for helping FFRC stock our pantries. With Kitty Christmas approaching, we kindly ask that if you choose to participate you keep your contributions focused on necessities
For Kitty Christmas, please hold off on sending toys, beds, rugs, or anything that isn’t essential. We truly appreciate these thoughtful gifts, but this event is all about stocking the pantry
If you’re sending a package, please include “Kitty Christmas” on the shipping label so we know where to direct your donation. Monetary donations are also welcome, and you can note “Kitty Christmas.”
2027 Chatters Weekend will be 9/11 and 9/12/27.
Make your plans now for all of the upcoming special events.

FFRC is hiring!
A question that is often asked during Q & A: How many cats currently call FFRC home? The answer is approximately 140 cats.
Please make sure that you have a plan for your pets in the event that you are no longer able to take care of them. The best plan is to have both a primary and a secondary backup.
