Happy Sunday Funday everyone!! It's almost hard to believe we're at the end of January already, but this latest snowstorm sure reminded us it's still winter. The kitties seemed to enjoy sleeping the days way during the cold. The downside to the massive snow is our Humane Ohio transport being canceled. Goodness what a bummer! We had 16 of our kitties going that now has been delayed. Luckily, our wonderfully amazing Dr. Darcy is doing her best to try to squeeze in as many as we can throughout the month of February. It will be a work in progress for sure.

In happier news, I can say that Camvie is feeling a little better. Camvie has chronic upper respiratory infection as well as inflammatory bowel disease. She's had both since she was a tiny baby. We're switching some meds around and seeing how it goes. She has been much more active, and her pain seems much more controlled. Pawscrossed for our sweetie that we always can do what's bestest for her.

Egypt has been experiencing some pain and his remainder back leg. We anticipated this might be something that could happen. Remember that back leg that he's left with isn't the greatest of legs. It does have breaks in it as well that have been healed. We are treating him for any pain, but we will be working on getting him in for an X-ray.

Kiara will also be going up for surgery on Tuesday 1/31 for an amputation of her 5th and possibly 4th toe. In case you missed it, she's had a wound that just wasn't healing. We initially thought it was a broken toe, but a sample was sent in and it was determined to be cancer. Luckily, this type of cancer is generally localized, so keep good thoughts for our sweetie.

We do have TWO new intakes too! Well, kind of new. The first is Murph. He was an FFRC kitty named Cobo that originally was adopted 5/19/2020 but was returned due to peeing issues. He is a beautiful black tiger, and his date of birth is 3/26/2020. He so far has been absolutely wonderful and hasn't pottied outside the box once since he's been here. We're so very proud of our big boy.

The second is Cosmo. This boy is a beautiful, long-haired tabby. He originally came in for a shave and was going to be kept as an outside cat. After we discovered how nice he was, we asked the owner if we would be allowed to find him a home inside. She relinquished him to us on 1/24/2023. We have his date of birth being 5/17/2017. We've done some shave on him so far, but I think we're going to need more. He definitely is in need of a dental. But he's oh so nice of a boy. We are happy to have him and look forward to finding him a wonderful inside home.

Yesterday (1/28/2023) we had three wonderful adoptions. I'm so happy when our babies find wonderful homes. The first two were our sweet Rocky Raccoon and Cumberland. They went to an amazing family that I'm sure will spoil them like crazy.

The next was Wally. Oh, this sweet boy captured his parent's hearts with his adorable wobbles. They already have experience with special needs kitties. He will be in a single cat home, with his very own puppy and a couple of bird friends. I think he's going to do just wonderful.

This last Tuesday we had another wonderful box day! Thank you all so very much for making sure our kit cats never go without! We are so very grateful for you all.

Sunday, Jan 22, 2023

Hi guys!! Happy Sunday! We've been busy working around here and watching the beautiful snow falling. All the outside cats have been in their heated rooms staying nice and toasty. So grateful for the solar panels to help with these electric bills for all these heat lamps. Thank you all so very much for them!

It's been a busy two weeks so let's dig right in!

Adoptions adoptions! We've had 3 lovely boys go to their very own homes. The first was Bootsie. What an incredibly sweet boy he is and I'm so happy he's found his furever family. I've already gotten amazing reports on him. He's been settling in and playing nicely!

The next TWO were to the same home and best yet---they are brothers! Jacko and Lantern captivated their new parents but their handsomeness and BIG paws. They have been doing wonderfully also. I can't tell you how much joy this brings to my heart. They have been playing and sleeping together and love their new parents.

We did have an intake too---CATch. Oh, this boy. Wow is he a cutie. CATch came in on Jan 12th with a birthday of Dec 1st, 2022. He was only a little over a month old. He was found outside in a horrible state. This poor baby was covered in fleas and has a terrible eye infection. Once he gains enough weight, his eye will be removed. Luckily food has not been an issue for this baby. When he arrived, he weighed 12 ounces. As of last night, he's already up to 1lb 8oz. He's a wonderful eater and is eating on his own. So happy he's with us and we just love him already. Did I mention he's polydactyl??? Those extra toes sure help when playing!!

We also took in Blackberry. She is this adorable little floof of a gray kitten. She was brought in by our volunteer Connie to help give Guppy a friend her own age. They are getting along amazingly. She arrived on 1/1/23 with a birthday of 9/19/22.

During all of these adoptions and intake, we were also doing the Betty White Challenge. This challenge is a funraiser to raise money for any animal shelter in honor of late actress Betty Whites birthday.

This is the second time this challenge has happened. Last year it was one of my first funraisers as director and YOU as the amazable FFRC Nation raised a whopping $7051 in 2022.

We knew such a feat would be hard to accomplish again, but as always, the FFRC Nation never ceases to amaze. This year-2023-you raised a STAGGERING $14,812.02!

Wow. Wow. Wow. We are just beyond speechless. This will go into our Feliz Navidad (medical fund) to help more cats like CATch, Dagda, Rathbone, Egypt and so many more. Thank you so very much from the bottom of our hearts. It's an absolute comfort! Of course, at the cat's insistence, we couldn't use alllllll of that on boring meds (cat's words, not mine) so we did celebrate a little with a chickie party and new castle tower. It's been great fun.

Adding to the incredible last two weeks, we had boxes! Oh so very many of you to thank!! You keep our kitties stocked up with all sorts of yummy things for their bellies and toys to keep them entertained. The kitties LOVE box day --- maybe we should rename it to 'Kitten Spoiling Day'? Hehe! You all are just wonderful. Thank you to much.

THANK YOU AGAIN TO OUR WONDERFUL BOX SENDERS!

And last but not least, we have so kitty updates. Rathbone is responding wonderfully to his new meds and has stopped coughing for 5 days. Wonderful news!

Kiara--the wound on her paw has opened up again. Luckily Dr Darcy had a sample and sent it away. It did turn out to be cancerous. Luckily, she believes this type of cancer is generally localized to the paw. We have her scheduled for surgery on Jan 31st to remove her 5th and possibly 4th digit on her front paw. So, keep your good thoughts for this sweet girl.

Camvie--we do have some updates on our little wheel running girl. Camvie has chronic upper respiratory infection as well inflammatory bowel disease. She's had both of these since she's been a kitten. We are getting to a point where her meds are not helping anymore. If you could all just love on our sweet girl and send her good thoughts that would be wonderful. Our absolute goal is their needs always before our own, and their comfort and happiness.

Thank you all for hanging in there for this long blog, Dagda said its time for a nap! We sure appreciate each and every one of you. Thank you always for your kindness to our kitties and FFRC. In friendship ~ Megan and the Cats

Hi guys! Happy new year! I've had such a huge request on keeping up with the blogs, that I've decided to try again after the busy Christmas season.

To start the first of the year off, we had two wonderful adoptions to the same home… our very own Debbie Cat and Cher went to a wonderful home. And get this a home we've already had adopted too! How wonderful is that? What a great start to the new year, and a hope that we can continue this trend all year long!

We also have a new resident, Dagda! He's just such the happiest boy, and loves his 'magic door' where Kims treats come from!

In other news this week, Lynnette is back from vacation. I've missed her so very much. She truly does so much for this rescue, and I am just so grateful for her. So welcome back Lynnette!!

Since Lynnette's been back, we have been busy back at it after the holidays. We have been doing lots of vaccines and bookwork. It's been a busy but it's so fulfilling.

We also had mega box day on Tuesday! Oh my what fun it was! Big huge thank you to all our supporters who sent in lovely good things for our kitties. The food has been especially helpful for as much as we've gotten in from kitty Christmas we still have a few bare spots on ourselves that would be so wonderful to be filled!

We are also happy to Report that all the outside kitties and farm animals made it through that horrible polar vortex we had over Christmas week. Thank goodness! Massive massive thanks to Cindy and Jimmy for working their tails off to make sure that the cats and farm animals would be as warm as possible. They also spent many hours in the day to make sure that they had fresh water and food and warm spots to lay in, even for the ducks chickens and peacocks! We truly have the best staff and volunteers around.

Kitties updates! Otter is now 2.14 pounds! We are so very happy he's thriving so very well. The kittens (Otter, Ninja, Chumley, Marigold, Alfred, Simpson and Stratton) are dealing with a small bout of ringworm, but luckily they've been quarantined and playing like mad! They are the happiest kitties.

Lucie had a touch of 'yuckiness', just not feeling well we gave her some meds, fluids and warm cozy beds and happy to report she's back up to her perky self! So very happy. I would like to stress the fluids were preventative and she was not dehydrated. She just had a bit of the 'runs' so extra fluids are always wonderful! I'm so very grateful to have medicines and knowledge at my fingertips to be able to help!

Some upcoming events to look out for:

January 10th - Box Day! Weeee! Opening boxes of all the goodies you send in for the cats
January 14th - 11am Bootsie gets his very own home!!
January 17th - The Betty White Rescue Challege Event from noon-3 pm. This will include stories from past FFRC kitties ready by some of our wonderful volunteers and staff. Last year we raised $7051. WOWZERS! Thank YOU for making this event so successful. Your support allows us to continue our passion of helping kitties in need!

Thank YOU for being a part of our rescue, and for allowing us to carry on another year. You are such a large part of what keeps us going. We are constantly humbled and grateful for the steady love and support you give to us and most importantly....our cats. Many good wishes for the New Year to each and every one of you. Hugs and purrs ~ Megan and the Cats
