FFRC Blog Week Ending September 12, 2026
2026 Chatters Weekend was a great success! Thank you so much for the staff that worked countless hours to provide a wonderful venue for us to meet and greet! Also, thanks so much for the Chatters that came in early to help get everything set up: Beth-IL, Lynn-PA, Terri & Steve-NC, Ron-TN, Alley Cat-OH and Cindy-IN.
What a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends and to turn acquaintances into new friends. FFRC is truly the "Happiest Place on Earth."
Adoptions:
We started out Chatters Weekend with a double adoption on Friday, 9/11. Stephanie's son adopted PASCAL and KABUKI. These kitties didn't have to travel far to get home. They will stay in Defiance and will be the only pets. Pascal was found in the FFRC parking lot where he was dumped with Momma, ANGELIQUE, and his siblings. His date of birth is 4/23/26.
Kabuki, now named SALLY, was found in a cemetery with her sister, BABITA on 6/19/26. Her date of birth is 3/1/26.
Warm wishes to these two in their new furever home!
Intakes:We are FULL!
We did not receive any intakes this week.
Health Updates:
On Friday, 9/11, Cheerio received a routine vaccine. She had an adverse reaction and starting panting heavily. She was quarantined and treated and is doing fine now.
All of our other kitties are doing great!
Holds:
WILLOW's adoption was delayed and will be September 14th.
SAZAZ will be going home very soon. She doesn't have to travel far. Our own Debbie will be taking in another big kitty for her very own. We are so happy for Debbie and Sazaz!!!!
We have a lot of applications that we are reviewing, so look for more holds and adoptions soon!
Center Kitties:
VICTORIA loves living in NYOTA's Nest, but she still needs to keep in touch with the Main Room.
TIMBIT is showing off his FFRC Belly and getting in a good stretch, too.
Adopted Kitties:
LEMON is living the high life in Chicago. She is quite the princess and is sure that the show out her window was arranged just for her.
Happy 3rd birthday to KAREN, ZACH, and REDSOX now living in Rhode Island.
TIGRESS is having a snooze!
And last, but not least---a THOR and MALADE update:
Hi FFRC nation! An update on Malade & Thor. Both did well on the drive home (9.5 hours with stops). Thor slept in the corner of the carrier & didn't move the entire ride. Malade was restless to begin & meowed often but eventually settled in after using the litter. Occasionally we would hear little meows from her during the drive. Once we got home, we brought their carriers in & let Rosie (our rescue dog) & Zeke come up & sniff. Zeke sniffed & ran away. Pixell & Morris were sleeping somewhere in the house. Malade came out of the carrier & ventured down the hallway & into our small bedroom, which we had setup for them until they are comfortable being out all the time. Thor would not come out of the carrier so I brought him in the back & shut the door & then he came out. They both hid under the bed for a while. Malade came out first for pets & something to eat. Thor eventually came out as well for pets & food. Later in the evening we opened the door & they met Pixell & Morris & that went well. Rosie also went in & they did really well with her (I was surprised since they haven't had a lot of exposure to dogs). Zeke is being the most difficult! He is being very hissy. I have to admit, I was not expecting that. But I know that he will calm down in a few days. This morning, Malade has explored the entire house & is very brave! Thor is still hiding under the bed but has explored the other 2 bedrooms but hasn't come past those rooms yet. But that's okay, he will in time. Overall, I think everything is going really well. An early peek into FFRC Chatters Weekend was a Facebook Live Walk-Thru of the property on Friday. It was recorded and can be watched anytime. Check it out!
Day 1, we had folks from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas! What a great turn-out.
Pizza lunch, with sandwich and salad leftovers from the day before, plus loads of delicious desserts. Wow our folks sure can bake!!!!!
Dinner was barbequed pulled chicken and pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, plus potato salad---AND even more desserts.
A spontaneous buggy ride and tour down to the backwater, plus a turn around at a local watering hole, was loads of fun!
Bingo games, lots of winners and at least one big loser table. That's the table that had all the big talkers that thought they were going to win. Jokes were on them!
The prize for the furthest travel went to Brenda and Burt from Mississippi.
We all went on a tour of the Cove and met some kitties that aren't seen on camera--also got to see the other farm animals, including the goats.
A big surprise for all was a visit from Dr. Darcy. She and a co-worker had participated earlier in a bicycle event near Findlay, OH. We were so happy to se her.

We all celebrated our Mod--Dark Cat's Birthday on 9/11. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when we all sang that Birthday song. I think if we're being honest, it was because none of us are singers!!!

Please make sure that you have a plan for your pets in the event that you are no longer able to take care of them. The best plan is to have both a primary and a secondary backup.
