FFRC Blog Week Ending August 15, 2026
On 8/10, we thought about recognizing National Lazy Day, but decided it was just too much work!
On August 8th, we recognized International Cat Day. The day was established in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to raise awareness about cats, promote their welfare, and encourage responsible pet ownership. from Wikipedia
Adoptions:
We had a very special adoption (aren't they all?) on Friday, 8/14. Our homegrown RUMPELSTILTSKIN was adopted by Michelle and Eric Yacks--yeah Mrs. Yacks of 5th grade teacher fame! On 3/2/23, Rumpelstiltskin was born at FFRC to TIGRESS. He was one of 6 babies. The first 4 passed very quickly. Only he and his sister, MAGELLAN survived. They quickly became known as the Miracle Babies! Rumpelstiltskin has been a very healthy boy. The only mishap was when he fell from overhead and had to have the femoral head removed. He now walks just fine!
And then, on Monday, August 10th, another little baby was brought in. She had been found by the road, all alone. She was 4-5 days old and is another baby tiger. She was a screamer, but when put with the Itty Bitty, she quickly quieted. They are now snuggle buddies. Bigger Itty Bitty has also not yet been named.
We have named the kitty that came in last week from a rescue center that we work with. She is a tiger tabby with a lot of white, about 1 1/2 months old. She has the biggest eyes. She has tested fine. Her name was taken from the Name a Cat Program. The results of our votes:
On Monday, SHADOW, one of our barnie boys--and Cindy's shadow, will be going to Dr. Darcy's for a check-up. He has been panting in this hot weather.
and WILLOW.
We also have an approved adopter that has expressed interest in ZOOKIE. Once the adopter actually visits and meets the kitties, a final decision will be made.
SAZAZ will be going home very soon. She doesn't have to travel far. Our own Debbie will be taking in another big kitty for her very own. Debbie is still feeding babies: Nigel, Beazlee and Shine. She needs to get them ready to move to the main center. AND.... then I think that Debbie needs a little "no kitty" time before this beautiful lady moves in. We are so happy for Debbie and Sazaz!!!!

PEANUT BUTTER has already made himself at home.
SOPHIE was adopted 10 years ago. She loves naps, playing with a laser light and her mousers.

Events:
On Tuesday, August 11th, we sent up 44 cats to Humane Ohio. There were 24 females and 20 males. None were FFRC Kitties
Chatter friends Ben and Emily were married on August 15th. Mary Lou and Noelle are all wishing them the best!
Other:
Lynnette is back and feeling better.
We heard from Denise. her husband is doing great after his surgery.
Cindy has some outside kitty and farmyard help starting on August 17th. Let's all welcome Rose. YEAH!!!
We ordered a replacement pole for Rocket. He had demolished the old one. He is still getting used to the new pole.
We are wishing everyone the best that have been suffering through all of the recent storms and fires. Much of the Midwest was affected recently by a Derecho (not our boy) and remain without power after nearly a week. Other parts are flooded with major roads completely washed away. Fires consume other parts of the country. Keep all in your hearts during their difficult times.

Please make sure that you have a plan for your pets in the event that you are no longer able to take care of them. The best plan is to have both a primary and a secondary backup.
