FFRC Blog Week Ending July 18, 2026

This month, we observe Lost Pet Prevention Month to raise awareness and promote actions that prevent pets from becoming lost.

Here are some steps that you can take to protect your pets from becoming lost:

Microchip Your Pets: A microchip provides permanent identification that shelters and veterinarians can scan to contact you quickly if your pet is found thevetdesk.com+1.
Update ID Tags: Ensure collars have current contact information to facilitate immediate reunification Hepper.
Keep Pets Indoors or Supervised: Indoor cats and supervised dogs are less likely to escape or encounter hazards Catster.
Take Regular Photos: Maintain up-to-date photos from multiple angles to aid identification if your pet goes missing thevetdesk.com.
Secure Outdoor Areas: Fences, gates, and enclosed spaces reduce the risk of pets wandering off National Today.
Spread Awareness: Share tips, safety pledges, and reunion stories on social media using #LostPetPreventionMonth, and participate in local events or workshops hosted by shelters, veterinarians, or pet organizations National Today+1.

Adoptions:

We had some very special adoptions this week---but aren't all adoptions special?

The first adoption was on 7/15 for two little kitties, ZELDA and GLINDA. Their mom is over the top with happiness to have these two girls. Zelda is a little black and white baby that arrived at FFRC on 6/19/26. Her date of birth is 5/8/26. She was found in a car's wheel well and was filthy upon her arrival. Glinda is an orange striped, medium to long hair little lady. She arrived on 6/23/26 and has a date of birth of 4/16/26. She was found just roaming around outside. Both kitties had been getting acquainted with each other in Dodger's Pen. Initially, they weren't too sure of each other but soon were loving on each other and playing.

Our next adoption has been in in the planning stages for quite a while. This was the adoption of WIBBLES, RAISIN and JENNY. Jenny is about 8 months' old. She arrived at FFRC on 10/19/25. She had been found outside someone's home. She had very bad eyes. One has been removed and she has limited sight in the other. She is the very beautiful black and white kitty pictured below. Wibbles and Raisin are inky sisters with Cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). They were born to a feral momma. Raisin is more moderate and has sleek black fur. Wibbles is more severe but has become more stable as she has gotten older. Her fur is fluffier and she has one white whisker. Their date of birth is 10/31/25. All kitties will be keeping their names.

On 7/16, Megan, Eric and a friend boarded a plane in Detroit and were Vegas bound. They caught the attention of many and made friends during their travels.

Travel and Touchdown were great. The girls were very well behaved, and their new momma was waiting to take them to their furever home.

Jenny was ready to join the Vegas showgirl community.

And the new brothers were ready to welcome them home. (Jude, Jax and Loki).

The girls are home but are tired from their travels.

Intakes:

All of our pens are still FULL!

As expected, we had a return on Monday, 7/13. Her FFRC name was GUTHRIE but was changed upon adoption to Willow. She was originally adopted on 5/7/18 after only being at FFRC for 8 days. She is now about 9 years old. 80% of orange tigers are male, but this one is a female!!!

Health Updates:

All of our kitties are doing great! Our new arrivals (returns and the two court case kitties are very sad and confused, but we are working with them. The great news is that all of these "new" kitties tested negative (this means that they do NOT have Feline Leukemia or FIV.

Holds:

SAZAZ will be going home very soon. She doesn't have to travel far. Our own Debbie will be taking in another big kitty for her very own. Debbie is still feeding babies: Nigel, Beazlee and Shine. She needs to get them ready to move to the main center. AND.... then I think that she needs a little "no kitty" time before the big lady moves in. We are so happy for Debbie and Sazaz!!!!

Center Kitties:

Here's Covie DUDE. We don't see the Covie's very much, but this one celebrated his 12th birthday on 7/12.

Here's another Orangie! It's SPIKER!!! He's getting some lovin' from Momma Megan.

SKYE loves her soy sauce toys!

Adopted Kitties:

JACCI and HEINZ have adjusted well. Here are notes from their momma:

every cat is unique and special -- here are a couple things about jacci and heinz 
★jacci has only 1 white whisker and the rest are dark
★heinz has 1 strand of white hair between his eyes
★they love to move their food bowl into the middle of the walkway, every time we put it back they move it back out
★their favorite bed is actually an aquarium. it was on the floor because i got a new one and i was going to sell it on marketplace, but they sleep on it and claimed it as theirs, so now its permanently there
★they can open the bottom cabinets in the kitchen and hide in there
★heinz loves pizza so we have to make sure to keep it away from him , lol
★basically everything about jacci is unique since no 2 torties will have the same pattern, i especially love her one blonde-peach foot
★they are both extremely cuddly - I've never met a cat more cuddly than heinz in particular 
★ they both HATE being picked up
★heinz has grinch feet , aka extremely long toe hairs

Humane Ohio was on Tuesday, 7/14. We sent 29 females and 19 males. This included GLINDA, ZELDA, RUMER, RENLY, PASCAL, SMUDGES, CATSBY, ALIKI and RUSSELL. Wait, who is Russell? He is an outside boy that had been very difficult to catch; however, our wonderful Shalin was able to get him. He is a very big grey and white tiger and has chubby cheeks. He showed up with cauliflower ears (from mites) and covered in fleas. He tested fine! He also came with his "brother" BOB. They look quite a bit alike, but Bob is a brown and white tiger. We haven't been able to catch Bob yet. These two may also be brothers with Barnicle Farnsworth, III.

There was no Q & A on Friday, 7/17. Megan was in Las Vegas---She's back now!!

Please make sure that you have a plan for your pets in the event that you are no longer able to take care of them. The best plan is to have both a primary and a secondary backup.
