What a fast moving month. Possibly because the days are full and busy.
We had an FFRC surgery day yesterday. We did 9 surgeries. The neuters were June Bug, Buttons, Boo Boo, Arland, Rupert and Jasper. The spays were Celie, Cambria and Bushie.
A few notes--all physicals were good. June Bug's wounds from the maggots are healing and right on track. Jasper's hurt lower lip that was hanging down was done by the Button technique. He is sporting a white button for 12 days or so. It will heal and hold the lower lip in place while it anchors itself in a better position. He's a super good sport about this.
Dr. Darcy also did a few physicals:
Bolly & 2 pups--good physicals. Weight gain good for pups. They received their distemper vaccines.
Ramsay--physical good
Janie--she's been a bit off lately. It was noticed that once again her knees are bothering her. She will go on a daily anti-inflammatory that will make her feel better. Her heart murmur is still there but no change.
Zelda--she continues her path with this mass on her front right leg. We worked out a better, more effective pain relief for her, which I'm grateful for. Zelda is on my desk at this moment. She spends alot of time here or on her box or on the counter/drawer shelf.
We continue our desire to spay/neuter cats to reduce the overpopulation problem. Our next HumaneOhio date is this Thursday, the 22nd.
We have an upcoming Flash Sale! It's for 7/20, Tuesday at 11:00. Many items not seen before! This sale will go towards our utility bills!
We have taken on a few more cats/kittens!
Rupert--a handsome male white/gold DSH. His right ear tip has a bit of white. He was found on a country road, very thirsty and with fleas. He is 12 weeks old with a birthday of 7/12/21. Nice kitty. He is in the back Thumper's Room for a couple days then will be up in the main area.
Jasper III--another handsome black DSH. He is 8 weeks old with a birthday of 6/1/21. This little sweet boy was obviously tossed from a car window......he has the traditional "pizza face" look--scratches and that lower lip hanging down below his chin. He also arrived with earmites. Super sweet and friendly. He has a severe lip pocket. These are difficult too because any food eaten gets shoved into that pocket, inviting bacteria. Dr. Darcy did a superb job of tacking it up in it's near proper place, with a button sutured into the lip and jaw. A couple weeks with that button holding the lip up and Jasper should be good as new!
And then there is Peaches. Peaches is a 22 lb cat with a history that we haven't pieced all together yet. A very kind gentleman has had him for years. He was given this cat by a friend/neighbor that couldn't have him anymore. Apparently he was a past FFRC cat and is about 10-11 years old. The first owner must've forgotten that we take back all of our FFRC cats and kittens. Anyway, Peaches has had access to the big outdoors through a window. He got himself in a bit of trouble (which is why we do INSIDE only adoptions). He was brought back with a severe bite wound on his back hip. He is on 2 antibiotics and soreness meds. Each day this area is cleaned, flushed and medicated. Such a great gentle giant he is. Doesn't fuss much at all with everything we've done to him. He was tested negative for FIV and Leukemia upon arrival on 7/13. Eventually, he will have a second test, to back up the first test. In the meantime, he is enjoying himself in the back. Super nice big fella! We are searching for more of his background and hopefully will figure him out.
We have had 5 more adoptions!
Ringo....our big awesome yellow and white cat has loved Kim from the beginning of his time with us. He finally got his wish and is now calling her his new mama. He has been adopted by Kim, on 7/11 and has adjusted beautifully!
Punkie--adopted 7/17 to a new mom and her daughter. Punkie is her support cat while she deals with some medical issues. So happy for Punkie!
Churchill--adopted 7/17. He went to a family that loves the cats so much. He will keep his name of Churchill! He has a cat friend in the home already. I've already heard from his family--he is doing great, using the litter box, eating, drinking, playing and woke them up at 3 am! And he likes to talk! He also loves his purple mama!
Boo-Boo and Buttons--adopted 7/18, the twin black kittens. Super wonderful home. They will be much loved and other cat friends in the home too.
Another update on June Bug. His wounds are closing more and more each day. The wonder of a cat's ability to heal is always so amazing! Such a nice kitten--playful and loving.
Now that we are open, we are having more visitors---community visitors and cam visitors. It's all wonderful as we've missed having these visitors for 14 months. I feel the cats and kittens have really missed visitors too---they needed more "spice" in their lives than just us here! We try not to have too many people here at one time, just to be safe. Also if folks have not had their vaccines, we are asking for honesty---wear your masks! We have volunteers here still to protect!
My life has been topsy turvy lately and I've been so short of time. I know I'm behind on things. Just bear with me please. I've had to cut corners in a few ways. But, never ever in the care of the cats and kittens. But, you may notice a few things that I've curtailed back somewhat to help me get the majority of things done. I talked to Queen Coralie and King Magic and they have given me their paw of approval!
A super big thanks to so so many groups of people. Our volunteers, our staff, moderators, admins, supporters, lurkers, chatters, community and afar friends, veterinarians, fb friends..........the list is huge. And our thanks is even bigger! It truly does take a group of people to make up our FFRCNation that keeps us all bound together!
