Our cup runneth over.  Actually, our Thumper Rooms and quarantine condos are running over with kittens.  Here's the newbies:

Sunday Rose--female, black, birthday of 5/16/21, arrived at 10 weeks of age on 7/25/21. She was out in those torrential rain storms we had. A kind person took her in and dried her. Unfortuantely, she also got her tail in a mouse trap. It is healing and I'm getting hopeful that the tail end won't need to be removed. A sweetie that totally loves playing!

Elio--male, gold tiger, birthday of 5/21/21, arrived at 9 weeks of age on 7/24/21. He has been camping out at Dr. P's due to being hit by a car. The radial nerve was severed, which then required an amputation of the left front leg.  His name means sunshine/spirited.

Two cats were returned today. Both were from the same family and were super loved. Only because of health problems with a family member did they have to be returned:

Whimsey--originally arrived 12/27/16 and was adopted 1/28/17. Arrived at 9 weeks of age. She has a white body with a grey splotch on her head and a gray tail. Her birthday is 10/25/16.

Teanna--originally arrived 11/5/16 and was adopted 1/28/17. Arrived at 3 1/2 weeks of age. She is a brown tiger. Her birthday is 10/12/16.

Both are super nice, calm and have been moved up to the Paddy's Place so they have room to move about. Won't be long until they are in the Main Area.

Nala--female, calico, DLH, birthday of 6/11/21, arrived at 7 weeks of age on 7/30/21. She was found at Defiance Hospice and is ever so sweet.  She was full of parasites--earmites, fleas, lice and roundworms. These problems are already being worked on and she must feel so much better already.  I think this kitten was born with a purr because she has it mastered!

Morrigan--female, muted calico, birthday of 5/25/21, arrived at 9 1/2 weeks on 7/30/21. She was found with an injured right front leg--her radial nerve is severed and will require an amputation as the leg is completely useless.  Her left rear foot also has abrasions. Morrigan also has severe earmites. Another sweet girl that is calm and friendly.

We have names now for the litter of 5! Their fleas are of course, completely gone. They are transitioning from the bottle onto plates of food. Messy babies!

Fuzzy--gold tiger/white, male, gold dot on back of neck

Wuzzy--gold tiger/white, male, has "splotches" of white on back

Eggs--gold tiger/white, male, all gold on back

Danu--black tiger/white, female, pink nose

Patty Ann--black tiger/white, female, black nose

Auntie Peggy and I, with a heavy heart, have some sad news.  Our little Orfana has passed.  She was never 100% healthy from the beginning. What gives me comfort though, is the time spent with Peggy, which was full of love.  I know this is hard on Peggy, but as I've told her---if a life is going to be short, at least this kitten was filled with so much love. And that is what is so important. Thank you, Auntie Peggy for making this life matter to the utmost.

This weekend starts our Fun-Raiser! It ends at 9 am on Weds. On that same day at 1:00, we will have BOXES (Zelda is so excited!), followed by the main drawing which is then followed by consolation drawings!  Every penny of this fun-raiser will go towards our roof repair.

We had noticed a couple weeks ago, during a heavy rain, that we had a leak, right above the counter by the refrigerator. We had a roofing company come this week to take a look and the news isn't good. The present roof is 16-17 years old. Not that old, but it's in very poor condition. Not only are the sheeting boards weak and soft but so are the 2 x 4's. This will require a major roof repair that covers the Kitty Kabana, Purple Office, the entire Main Area and all rooms off of this area, plus the Storage Room and Welcome Room.  This has to be done. It will take a bit of time to be worked into their work schedule. We'll figure this all out but bottom line.....this is a repair we have no choice in doing.

We have had 2 more adoptions!

Rupert was adopted on 7/30.  Rupert wasn't here very long but because of his handsomeness and sweetness, he found a home quickly!

Dee Dee was adopted today, 7/31. She sure did like her new family and was rubbing all over them, definitely telling them that she was the one!

June Bug is doing great--all his maggot wounds are now closed. The fur still has to grow back though.

Jasper as one more week to go before we remove his wire sutures from his button/lip surgery.

Fendi and Frontigny--the two cemetery kitties are doing great. They have finally recovered from their very rough start. Their appetites are good, their energy level is very high. Two cuddlies!

As I sit here, Zelda and CDot are on my desk. Asha is in her usual spot to get her ears rubbed. Spiker is here in his bed with his tongue half hanging out. And there goes Jasper and Bushie trotting by, just being cute!  It's a good day here.

Friday, July 23, 2021 & info on Sept. event

A great day yesterday, because it was a spay/neuter day.  This one was with HumaneOhio.  We sent up 37 kittens and cats. This broke down to 27 females and 10 males.  Each cat gets a physical by their vets and a 24 hour soreness med.  Many owners also take this opportunity to get vaccines and flea treatments.

I always try and answer some questions here that I am asked. That way, if others wonder, the answer is out there! Does FFRC make money on the HumaneOhio events? Nope, not a penny!  What HumaneeOhio charges us for the surgeries is exactly what we charge the cat owner. This is our service time for our community.

This past Tuesday was a Flash Sale! This sale brought in $1,152!  I believe this is one of the highest Flash Sales. This money will be applied to our monthly utility bills. Steve was able to get some paid just last night! Many thanks for a group help on this!

And I want to again say a big thanks for the We Care event.  We have a situation here that will be of some cost. Our roof is leaking--above the main area by the refrigerator/counter area. The roof guy is coming this Tuesday and will take a look.  We already know there's some damage in the attic. After a look-see, he will send an estimate. Not quite so scary to me, since the We Care!

We've had 4 more adoptions!

Cambria, adopted 7/21---a Lisa litter kitten. She went into a home with a cat named Louie. They have excellent vet reference! Cambria is that gorgeous torti with the gold on her face.

Celie, adopted 7/22---another of the Lisa litter. She went into a home with another kitten (from FFRC) now named Klaus. Celie and Klaus hit it off together from the beginning and are already playing and napping together!

Ju-in-ji, adopted 7/23--one of Springs kittens (still one left). Ju-in-ji is going into a home with a mom/dad and 3 awesome kids. This family wants a loving kitten and she should fit that need!

Poppy, adopted 7/23--a beautiful brown tiger girl. What an awesome home she went into--they already have 1 cat and 1 kitten, both from FFRC!

June Bug continues to heal. Those gaping wounds are closing in quickly. A super nice kitten. Jasper's button lip looks awesome. He is such a happy kitten and plays with all the kittens with so much energy!

You know, it tears me apart to give out sad news. But, I've always promise to be honest and upfront, even though sometimes I just want to go into hiding for a bit.  We have lost our dear sweet big Peaches this morning.  He went into acute Congestion Heart Failure. After much discussion with Dr. Darcy, it was decided that we should let him pass peacefully.  When it is a struggle to breathe, it can be terrifying. His lungs were full and Dr. Darcy truly felt the only way to keep them clear would be if chest tubes were placed with continuous suction and then still would need to try and reverse the underlying cause.  I felt in my heart, that Peaches would not like that.  He is with the other FFRC cats and kittiesin Kitty Heaven.

Update on new  kitties:

Orfana--arrived 7/8/21 at 2 days of age and 4 ounces. She was found on a road with her mama who had passed away. She was the only kitten. She is spending some time with Auntie Peggy! She has a strong will to live!

Elton--arrived 7/19/21. The Sheriff called and said this kitten needed help. He had a bite wound of the right rear ankle that was so very sore and infected. Elton is doing much better now that he is on antibiotics and soreness meds. He is a gray silver tiger, 13 weeks old with a birthday of 4/19/21. He will be in the main area soon.

Litter of 5--arrived 7/22/21. They are 3 weeks old and have a birthday of 7/1/21. Two girls are black tiger/white. Three boys are gold tigers/white. Average weight is 11 ounces. No names yet but soon enough. They arrived with major flea infestation but those are all gone now. It must feel so good to not have the itchies.

And now the exciting news:

You all take good care. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sunday, July 18, 2021

What a fast moving month. Possibly because the days are full and busy.

We had an FFRC surgery day yesterday.  We did 9 surgeries. The neuters were June Bug, Buttons, Boo Boo, Arland, Rupert and Jasper.   The spays were Celie, Cambria and Bushie.

A few notes--all physicals were good. June Bug's wounds from the maggots are healing and right on track.  Jasper's hurt lower lip that was hanging down was done by the Button technique. He is sporting a white button for 12 days or so. It will heal and hold the lower lip in place while it anchors itself in a better position. He's a super good sport about this.

Dr. Darcy also did a few physicals:

Bolly & 2 pups--good physicals. Weight gain good for pups. They received their distemper vaccines.

Ramsay--physical good

Janie--she's been a bit off lately. It was noticed that once again her knees are bothering her. She will go on a daily anti-inflammatory that will make her feel better. Her heart murmur is still there but no change.

Zelda--she continues her path with this mass on her front right leg.  We worked out a better, more effective pain relief for her, which I'm grateful for. Zelda is on my desk at this moment. She spends alot of time here or on her box or on the counter/drawer shelf.

We continue our desire to spay/neuter cats to reduce the overpopulation problem. Our next HumaneOhio date is this Thursday, the 22nd.

We have an upcoming Flash Sale!  It's for 7/20, Tuesday at 11:00. Many items not seen before! This sale will go towards our utility bills!

We have taken on a few more cats/kittens!

Rupert--a handsome male white/gold DSH. His right ear tip has a bit of white. He was found on a country road, very thirsty and with fleas. He is 12 weeks old with a birthday of 7/12/21. Nice kitty.  He is in the back Thumper's Room for a couple days then will be up in the main area.

Jasper III--another handsome black DSH. He is 8 weeks old with a birthday of 6/1/21. This little sweet boy was obviously tossed from a car window......he has the traditional "pizza face" look--scratches and that lower lip hanging down below his chin.  He also arrived with earmites. Super sweet and friendly. He has a severe lip pocket. These are difficult too because any food eaten gets shoved into that pocket, inviting bacteria.  Dr. Darcy did a superb job of tacking it up in it's near proper place, with a button sutured into the lip and jaw.   A couple weeks with that button holding the lip up and Jasper should be good as new!

And then there is Peaches.  Peaches is a 22 lb cat with a history that we haven't pieced all together yet. A very kind gentleman has had him for years. He was given this cat by a friend/neighbor that couldn't have him anymore. Apparently he was a past FFRC cat and is about 10-11 years old. The first owner must've forgotten that we take back all of our FFRC cats and kittens.  Anyway, Peaches has had access to the big outdoors through a window. He got himself in a bit of trouble (which is why we do INSIDE only adoptions). He was brought back with a severe bite wound on his back hip.  He is on 2 antibiotics and soreness meds.  Each day this area is cleaned, flushed and medicated. Such a great gentle giant he is. Doesn't fuss much at all with everything we've done to him. He was tested negative for FIV and Leukemia upon arrival on 7/13. Eventually, he will have a second test, to back up the first test. In the meantime, he is enjoying himself in the back.  Super nice big fella! We are searching for more of his background and hopefully will figure him out.

We have had 5 more adoptions!

Ringo....our big awesome yellow and white cat has loved Kim from the beginning of his time with us. He finally got his wish and is now calling her his new mama. He has been adopted by Kim, on 7/11 and has adjusted beautifully!

Punkie--adopted 7/17 to a new mom and her daughter. Punkie is her support cat while she deals with some medical issues.  So happy for Punkie!

Churchill--adopted 7/17. He went to a family that loves the cats so much. He will keep his name of Churchill! He has a cat friend in the home already. I've already heard from his family--he is doing great, using the litter box, eating, drinking, playing and woke them up at 3 am! And he likes to talk! He also loves his purple mama!

Boo-Boo and Buttons--adopted 7/18, the twin black kittens. Super wonderful home. They will be much loved and other cat friends in the home too.

Another update on June Bug. His wounds are closing more and more each day. The wonder of a cat's ability to heal is always so amazing! Such a nice kitten--playful and loving.

Now that we are open, we are having more visitors---community visitors and cam visitors. It's all wonderful as we've missed having these visitors for 14 months. I feel the cats and kittens have really missed visitors too---they needed more "spice" in their lives than just us here! We try not to have too many people here at one time, just to be safe.  Also if folks have not had their vaccines, we are asking for honesty---wear your masks!  We have volunteers here still to protect!

My life has been topsy turvy lately and I've been so short of time. I know I'm behind on things. Just bear with me please.  I've had to cut corners in a few ways. But, never ever in the care of the cats and kittens. But, you may notice a few things that I've curtailed back somewhat to help me get the majority of things done. I talked to Queen Coralie and King Magic and they have given me their paw of approval!

A super big thanks to so so many groups of people.  Our volunteers, our staff, moderators, admins, supporters, lurkers, chatters, community and afar friends, veterinarians, fb friends..........the list is huge. And our thanks is even bigger!  It truly does take a group of people to make up our FFRCNation that keeps us all bound together!

A week tomorrow, I put in a blog, simply explaining some of the recent rough times FFRC has been experiencing. I did that blog to enlighten our FFRC friends so they would understand why things were a bit "shadowed" in those recent days.

What I did not expect is that some of these friends would suggest to do something that would help us with the loss of us not doing Catathon (due to covid) and to show support. It was quickly named We Care and grew into this absolutely awesome wonderful event.

It actually began on Tuesday and ended yesterday with yet a few more donations coming in today.

Is our FFRCNation awesome..............yes!

Do we have the bestest volunteers anywhere...........yes!

Are the mods and admins the best support teams anywhere........yes!

Do we have the sweetest, cutest and nicest cats anywhere.......absolutely yes!

From the bottom of my heart, I am so very grateful for the phenomenal results of We Care. Tuesday began with a few paypals and notes of donations coming through the mail. And then it exploded! I was kept hopping busy on the computer, smiling and having joy tears the entire time. Here's how it worked out:

Tuesday/Weds---$10,593.07

Thursday--$4,295.00

Friday--$8,210.49

Saturday--$12,200.85

Sunday---$2191.01

The Grand Total is $37,490.42  (all the cents given is in memory of LJ!!)

Do you realize this is actually very close to what we would've done for a Catathon?  I sit here in wonder and in awe of our FFRCNation. As I said yesterday, a thank you is not sufficient for what this means to FFRC. But, I promise, as always, to do my very best in taking care of this Rescue Center and each and every kitten and cat that comes our way.

Weds. we also had a Flash Sale.  It was filled with a wide variety of items, all donated by our friends. This sale brought in $691.04.  I thank these friends, all those that won the items and the mods for doing the PR for this event.

We've had another three adoptions!

Vlinder was adopted on 7/7. What a sweet brown tiger little girl. She went into the home that also adopted Herschel. Her new name is Harlow!

Quill and Quiller were adopted on 7/9, together in the same home! This family has kids that will give lots of love to these two twin boys!

We have several other kittens on hold: Buttons and Boo Boo together, Ju-in-ji, Ringo, Punky, Celie and Churchill.

June Bug--update! This morning, I am beyond encouraged. His wounds from the maggots are definitely healing. The process of filling in those open gaps is now happening! He is an awesome kitten and is feeling stronger and has more energy now!

Thursday was our HumaneOhio surgery day! We sent 41 kittens and cats! This broke down to 28 females and 13 males.  Our total so far for 2021 is 530. A great day!

Many of you already know, but my family has grown by 3 dogs--1 adult dog and 2 puppies. Bolly, who is the "sister" to Molly is doing great. She is fitting in and leaning new things everyday. She thinks house living instead of barn living is quite nice! She enjoys the fenced in yard and comes to FFRC often to spend time. The two puppies are the two that Molly had. Both are doing better, getting stronger but have a ways to go to catch up to what "normal" would be. Steve and I are working with them to help grow them up and to be happy healthy dogs. The chocolate one is called Kenya, a female. The spotty one, like Molly, is called Abner, a male. Abner is quite small and has a few developmental things going on. But....he doesn't know it and just carries on!

Have a great Sunday. It's been raining all morning here and more expected. I saw the ducks and geese out on the farmyard....they are quite happy with the situation!

Monday, July 5, 2021

FFRC is in need of good thoughts and prayers (GT&P). It's been a rough few days. I'll explain:
June Bug is still with us but has massive wounds from the maggots and severe anemia from the fleas. He is trying so hard to survive. He needs our wonderful GT&P from our FFCNation.
Our little Mithra has passed. This weekend was hard for her--her little body could not keep up with her terrible leg amputation by the car tire. She passed while being cuddled.
Cliff, our Porchie cat of many years has also passed. We have a stray (seen but not caught) that has been fighting with our Porchies. Four cats so far has come up with bite wounds, Cliff being the worse. All four had wounds that were shaved, antibiotics given (both long and short term), soreness meds given. All has healed nicely except for Cliff. He never really recovered from this biting episode.
Yesterday was time to retest him. He came up positive with FIV--only transmitted by deep bite wounds. Cliff was suffering from this and did not feel good at all. He was helped over to kitty heaven due to his feeling so poorly. He is tremendously missed. Such a sweet boy and greater of the Porchie cats.
This led us to catching as many Porchie cats as we could yesterday. We tested 5 more, all of which were negative. We'll work on the others still.
Our fence for the Cove (purchased by LJ many years ago) is starting to suffer with age. About 3 months ago, one of the corner posts caved in. Cats could have easily gotten out. Post was fixed with no escapees. Today, another corner post caved in, due to rust. A good chunk of the fence was laying down. The help call was given and the fence pole put up with a t-post. I did a head count and all cats were accounted for. But, how so easy it would've been for cats to go on over as it was laying on the ground. Some of the cats in the Cove would be extremely difficult to catch if that should happen.
The poles and lower part of the fence (500 feet) are constantly being attended to--weather and rust has taken a toll on the quality of the fence. This fence needs GT&P too so we do not lose our Covies.
Our washer is causing problems. For the moment, we have it working again---takes a lot of fiddling around with all those many parts to get it going again. New parts have been ordered and as soon as they have arrived, our repair guys will come and check things out. We NEED this washer.
Due to Covid, we did not hold our annual Catathon this year or last year. The restrictions of Covid is getting much better but at the time of when we would be preparing for Catathon 2021, we could not do so. Needless to say, we are struggling some with finances since Catathon is our main fundraiser. We are holding Fun-Raisers and Flash Sales but these cannot keep up with what the Catathon would bring in. GT&P for our financial needs please.
More deaths we had to deal with--kitties coming in either already having passed or on their last breath.....all due to fleas. It's a terrible thing to die from an overload of fleas which can be prevented. Wonderful kitties dying with no chance of a life. Such a sad thing.
Struggling a bit trying to get meds to give complete relief for Zelda. It's a fine line, of reaching that comfort level or not. She is spending a lot of time on my desk with me. Magic is here too quite often.
Good news:
We had another adoption this morning!
Tenshi went to her new home, to live with Abel, on of the black "Abel" kittens. He, by the way, is doing great and is much loved. Tenshi is a wonderful kitten and will give much love to this family.
I've heard from Nano's family, who was adopted 6/28. All is good and the two cats of the family are friends.
Please, take good care and have a wonderful week. Thank you for those Good Thoughts & Prayers for FFRC. And thank you for being a friend to this rescue center.

Friday, July 2, 2021

It's been a busy week. But, I wonder how time can go so very fast.  Poooosh, another week is done. I feel that is why it's so important to be kind, to be compassionate, to be of service.  Time goes too fast and we can't get it back. "Time" to be sure we put on our positive side for others.

We had 2 more adoptions:

Nano was adopted 6/28. Such a cute little black/white kitten. He went into a home with another cat. This family was looking for a very affectionate kitten. Nano would certainly fit that!

Goldie Pearl was adopted 6/30. Her family just got back from vacation and came right away to pick her up! She too went into a home with another cat friend.

This week was a  Fun-Raiser! It was wonderful and so very helpful. Steve was able to take care of some bill-paying last evening. We and the cats appreciate this support. Here's how it went, with BOXES first:

Lynda D---Temptation Snacks

Mary SoCal---2 Packs of O'Cedar Sponges, 2 Container of Temptation Snacks, Large bag of Adult Iams Hairball food,

Judy Judy --- 2 Containers of Temptation Party Mix Snacks

Isn't that just amazable?  What a Grand Grand Total!  Many thanks for all the items donated for the Fun-Raiser, for the consolation prizes. And to Marcia and Lynnette for writing up the tickets.  And a big thanks to the Mods and Admins for helping us get the word out about this event.

Been working hard on upcoming adoptions.  We have more kitties on hold but some have to wait until they grow a bit so they can have their spay/neuter done.

Just an FYI--yesterday, Lynnette, Donna and I went to visit Bolly and her pups. Oh my goodness.......they are all ever so nice. So friendly and playful.  Our fence is now done so we're ready anytime for Bolly to come home with us.

A few updates:
Churchill is back to his ornery self. Doing super. Eating up a storm and playing like he will never run out of energy. Yet, he is super sweet

Shelly--continues to feel better about life.  She came in terrified from her tree ordeal but is much better.  Still a bit shy but that too is getting better.

Mithra--our little one with the 3 legs.  Her weight is still so light. She hasn't gained as much as I'd like her to but we're working on it.  She loves to be cuddled. What is left of her leg stump is looking good--no infection.  She continues on antibiotics, soreness meds and a  special ointment for the stump.  What a brave girl she is.

Bingo has re-settled back so nicely. What a great young cat he is. We already know that he is excellent in a home and would make a new family a wonderful friend.  He's still available for adoption.

Yeah for Punky!  She came in so shy but not anymore. She loves to be held, to be petted, loves to purr and be made a fuss over! Her blackness looks so sleeky/

We  have taken in two new kittens. They were found in deep grass, all alone.  They are both long haired, with birthdays of 5/21/21, coming in at 5 1/2 weeks.
Bushie--black/white, female, traditional tuxie look
Chiffonyx--grey/white, female

We took in another kitten. Has caused my heart to hurt.  A friend of FFRC found 4 kittens alongside a road, in the weeds.  Three had already passed but the 4th was struggling to survive. He has been named June Bug, is black, a male and is 11 weeks old. His birthday is 4/15/21.  Unfortunately, he arrived with hundreds of maggots on him and hundreds of fleas (which is the cause of death of his siblings).  I'm so thankful for capstar which also kills maggots. We removed hundreds of them from histherious wounds on the backside and hip areas. The capstar also started working on his fleas.  He is extremely anemic and that is not a good thing. It is a touch and go thing when the anemia is so severe. Please.....keep June Bug in your good thoughts and prayers. He's trying so hard. Due to his thinness and dehydration, we gave fluids, but again, with anemia, it has to be carefully given.  He is also being given high protein food.  He's a bit of a sad way right now but I keep telling him life will be better.

And then we have Zelda.  I did get her report on Weds., but it's taken me a few days to let things sink in.  Her growth on her elbow is a cancer tumor, probably an aggressive type with malignancy.. It is a painful tumor so pain control is of utmost importance. We are trying a variety of meds, all in hopes of her being comfortable.  Surgery or amputation is not in the picture. As you know, Zelda has my heart and I will try my very bestest to have her be comfortable and enjoy life. P lease.....another one for good thoughts and prayers.  I need my Zelda. Thank you.

You all have a wonderful weekend. Hoping any fireworks and bangs won't scare the animals. I always worry about this. Take care and know that FFRC appreciates you all.
