FFRC Weekly Blog Week ending June 1, 2024
Adoptions:
Baloney was adopted to a nice couple from New York. HIs new name is now Grayson.
Praline was officially adopted by her foster mom, our Volunteer and mod, Edna (Gem). It was simply meant to be and we couldn’t be happier for them.
Health Updates:
Grammy went to the Vet for her rabies vaccine and it was discovered that she has some internal things going on. It may be a mega esophagus which is a fancy term for extra air in her esophagus where food isn’t moved where it should be and can cause digestive issues. She was kept overnight for some additional blood tests. She is now back at FFRC on a med course,as we wait for her results. As a result, her adoption has been put on hold until we can ensure her health issues are cleared up first. Her new parents are very patient and hoping Grammy will be better soon.
Scotland had his “purse string” removed yesterday from his back end. Afterwards, he had a pretty large bowel movement that was less fluid than it has been. He’s looking better. He still has a long way to go but is heading in the right direction and gaining weight. When he came to us on May 12, he weighed just 7 lbs. He is now just over 9 lbs! Again, he has far to go but he’s progressing every day.
Cheerio will be going to see the Vet on Thursday. He’s fine but seems to have a lot of snotiness, goopy eyes, ear infections. So we just want him checked out to ensure nothing is going on. It may just be an ear polyp that is causing issues and that can easily be removed.
Buddy will also be going to the Vet (maybe Thursday) to be given a complete physical.
Rumplestiltskin is now completely recovered from his leg surgery and has been offered to come into the main center several times but each time he gives a look and turns back to be with his roommate and new BFF, Nyota.
New Kitties:
Four little kittens were found in a box in a yard. They were brought to FFRC and just as they were entering the door, one of them was in the process of passing. While the loss is sad, at least this kitten didn’t pass alone and her remains were handled with dignity.
The three remaining kittens are about 2 and half to 3 weeks old. They are teeny, tiny and fit in the palm of your hand. They are all boys, a white one (flame point) and two oranges. The white one is a ‘spitfire’ and though tiny, she has a big spirit. She has been named Dark Cat, after our wonderful mod Dark Cat.
Then on Friday someone came in with one itty bitty white kitty with a dark ‘splatch’ on her face. She is around the same age of the three new ones, maybe a little younger even though slightly larger.
Two adult cats have been returned due to the owner’s illness. Radar is a former FFRC kitty who is around 6 years old. He is a sweet boy who has a concerning weight issue. He is currently at 25 lbs and will be helped to get to a healthier weight. He has some mobility issues as well as labored breathing in some positions. Both issues are weight issues. His weight will be a slow process and done at a healthy rate.
His sister, Victoria is not a former FFRC cat, but they are non-blood siblings. She is about 12 years old and such a sweetie. She is very shy.
Both cats were much loved and need patience and reassurance that everything will be ok. They lost their home and their dad, who loved them, so will need some readjusting time. When the time is right, they will be in the main center.
Other Updates:
Bellamy is now in the Main Center. She is part of the Michigan group. She is a confident kitty who has already decided she likes to be on Magenta’s counter. She’s a little shy but confident nonetheless.
Financial Stuff::
As of Friday, the 501C3 paperwork has been turned in and now it’s just a matter of being approved by the agency that handles that. This will give FFRC tax breaks, allow donations to FFRC to be tax deductible and help us qualify for grants and perks given to certified tax deductible charities. Once approved the designation will be retroactive to 5/31/2024. Special thanks to Reid and Rindy for helping get all the paperwork together to make this happen. Also special thanks to our friend Miguel (Mr. Wonderwoman) who helped with all the bylaw stuff with the paperwork.
